Shadows: Vacated Science District, 2023

Shadows are shaped produced by objects or by a physical body when light is shined upon it. Usually, the shadow matches the shape of it’s original body. However, through clever placements of the objects and where the lights points to, the resulting form of the shadow can be far more artistically intersting than what a single shadow can represent.

In this artpiece, by using different objects that were lying around in the basement, I was able to combined their forms and shapes to create what could be the shadow of a science district when light is shined on it. A few examples to show, by starting from the left, can be the shadow of a satellite ground station pointing to the sky. The thing that formed it however is the cover of a glass barrel with a tap. After that, there is the camera which is inspecting the right side of the disctrict, which is in actuality the shadow of a plastic shaving razor. A last observation of a shadow being different to its object could be the obsevatory on the right represented by the magnifying glass stuck on the tambourine. By putting all these elements together, what we can see from the shadow is the shape of what could be a science district, which is vacated of people right now.
