WordArt: Smoke with the Clouds, 2022
During the making of this digital artwork, the teacher had us learn on how words in images can make a great impact on people. While it might not be artistically pleasing, words allows a more direct communication with it’s message to the viewers. Whether that be to present a book’s tittle, a striking campaign art, a propaganda poster, or even memes, words in art can sometimes enchances or complements the work of ther art.
For this photoshop, I found the image of a smoker compelling to make this artwork on. In the end, there is multiple things I wanted to present with this picture. Instead of a cigarette, I had the smoker use the branch of a tree. Those four cigarettes on the back represents not only the chimney of a factory, but also the trunk of trees. That is because when making beginner drawing, the leaves of trees usually have similar forms to how we draw beginner clouds. Hence, the background visually communicates a smoking factory, but can also represent the trees that have been replaced.
To connect the words with the art, the trees provides the oxygen for us to breathe and while we used to hold on to them, we puffed it out and abused them for our own needs. This is why when we smile, it is to ignore the miserable state of the environments so that we can enjoy our own compulsions that we fed to ourselves.
